Pre-Harvest Burn Permit Information

Date

All Pre-Harvest cane fires will require a fire permit from the 1st of September.

The bush fire danger period will commence on the 1st of September and will remain in place for the remainder of the 2023 cane harvest season.
During this period, all Pre-Harvest cane fires will require a fire permit.

Only Pre-Harvest Fire permits can be obtained from the Canegrower’s Office in Maclean during the hours of 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. The office can arrange to send the permit either by post or email.

The Permit holder must have a copy of the permit with them during the burn.

Please note It is essential that you provide 24 hours’ notice prior to your burn.

The day of the fire is insufficient notice to request a permit as you will not be able to meet your legal obligations of providing 24 hours’ notice to both Rural Fire Service and your neighbours.

Notification of a burn is required to validate your fire permit.
Follow this link to view the online portal www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify.

You can use your mobile phone or computer to lodge your notification.
If you do not have internet access notify Ulmarra Fire control Centre on 6644 5127

It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of where you are in the harvest rotation.

When you phone or email the office with your request please provide a full identifying address.

We can only issue a permit for one address or lot number, if you have multiple fires over several addresses/lot numbers, separate permits need to be issued.

Hot Tip
If you know that your cane harvesting crew is getting closer and a weekend is approaching, give the office a call and we will issue the permit for 21 days and complete the notification for you.
This is just in case the crew reaches you sooner than expected or you suspect that they will land at your place within that 21-day period.

Please ensure you check the current Fire Danger Rating before burning.
